  My name is Hob. I am an -------

  I am very happy to participate in this English Summer Program because it helps me to improve my oral English.

  Each day I arrive early for class; and sit in the first row which is nearest to the teacher so that I can hear the teacher clearly.

  I have attended every class, not missed a single one, only because I cherish this opportunity to learn to speak English well.

  Our teacher is a wonderful teacher. She speaks English slowly and clearly so that we can easily understand her. She tries hard to help us with pronunciation, intonation and rhythm and teaches us to speak English smoothly. She helps everyone with every difficult sound. She tells us stories and teaches us life skills, which will be useful to us in the future. She is very kind to us and we all love her.

  In the beginning, many of our students were shy about standing up in front of the class to speak English, but with the help of our teacher; and with the encouragement of our teacher every one of our class can now stands up and speak English loudly.

  Our teacher seems not to be an expert on languages. She does not tell us that the word "goodbye" originally means: ’god be with you’ or "god bless you" when we are talking about the basic expressions of saying goodbye. She does not tell us such things. She only teaches us every day English to help us to communicate with others. And that is just what I needed. So, this program has been very helpful to me. I hope there will be more such programs in the future so that many more people can benefit from it.

  Now, I have a dream!

  My dream is that one day I can go to America for a Chinese Summer program to teach Americans to speak Chinese and tell them about China.

  My dream is that Chinese and Americans understand each other better, will be good friends forever!

  "Now some one is dying," said the little girl, softly, for she had been told by her old grandmother, the only person who had ever been kind to her, and who was now dead that whenever a star falls an immortal spirit returns to the God who gave it.

  She struck yet another match against the wall; it flamed up, and surrounded by its light, appeared before her that same dear grandmother, gentle and loving as always, but bright and happy as she had never looked during her lifetime.

  The East and the West, Let’s enjoy the combination of the two cultures?

  Kipling said:"East is east, and west is west, and never the twain shall meet!" But now, a century later, they have met.

  They have met in business. They have met in education. They have met in the arts. Some people will argue that these meetings will leave us with a choice between east and west, but I believe that the best future lies in the creative combination of both worlds. We can make western ideas, customs and technology our own, and adapt them to our own use. We can enjoy the best of both worlds, because our tradition is, above all, one of selecting the best and making it our own.

  I love Beijing and Hennan opera because it always reminds me of who I am. But I am also a fan of pop music, especially English songs. So I have combined eastern melody with western language. It is called western henna opera.

  When two cultures meet, there may be things in one culture, which do not fit into the tradition of the other. When this happens, we need to learn to understand and respect the customs of another culture. Then there are certain things some people may not like. To this, I will say, if you do not like it, please try to tolerate it. To learn to tolerate what you personally don’t like is a great virtue at a time when different cultures mix and merge. Before us, there are two rivers, eastern and western cultures. At present, they may run in different courses. But eventually, they will converge into the vast sea of human culture.

  Right now, I can see peoples of eastern and western cultures, standing side by side, singing the Olympic theme song: we are hand in hand, heart to heart, together we will shape a beautiful tomorrow! Thank you!

  Thank you. Thank you, President Chen, Chairmen Ren, Vice President Chi, Vice Minister Wei. We are delighted to be here today with a very large American delegation, including the First Lady and our daughter, who is a student at Stanford, one of the schools with which Beijing University has a relationship. We have six members of the United States Congress; the Secretary of State; Secretary of Commerce; the Secretary of Agriculture; the Chairman of our Council of Economic Advisors; Senator Sasser, our Ambassador; the National Security Advisor and my Chief of Staff, among others. I say that to illustrate the importance that the United States places on our relationship with China.

  I would like to begin by congratulating all of you, the students, the faculty, the administrators, on celebrating the centennial year of your university. Gongxi, Beida. (Applause.)

  As I'm sure all of you know, this campus was once home to Yenching University which was founded by American missionaries. Many of its wonderful buildings were designed by an American architect. Thousands of Americans students and professors have come here to study and teach. We feel a special kinship with you.

  I am, however, grateful that this day is different in one important respect from another important occasion 79 years ago. In June of 1919, the first president of Yenching University, John Leighton Stuart, was set to deliver the very first commencement address on these very grounds. At the appointed hour, he appeared, but no students appeared. They were all out leading the May 4th Movement for China's political and cultural renewal. When I read this, I hoped that when I walked into the auditorium today, someone would be sitting here. And I thank you for being here, very much. (Applause.)

  Over the last 100 years, this university has grown to more than 20,000 students. Your graduates are spread throughout China and around the world. You have built the largest university library in all of Asia. Last year, 20 percent of your graduates went abroad to study, including half of your math and science majors. And in this anniversary year, more than a million people in China, Asia, and beyond have logged on to your web site. At the dawn of a new century, this university is leading China into the future.

  I come here today to talk to you, the next generation of China's leaders, about the critical importance to your future of building a strong partnership between China and the United States.

  The American people deeply admire China for its thousands of years of contributions to culture and religion, to philosophy and the arts, to science and technology. We remember well our strong partnership in World War II. Now we see China at a moment in history when your glorious past is matched by your present sweeping transformation and the even greater promise of your future.

  Just three decades ago, China was virtually shut off from the world. Now, China is a member of more than 1,000 international organizations -- enterprises that affect everything from air travel to agricultural development. You have opened your nation to trade and investment on a large scale. Today, 40,000 young Chinese study in the United States, with hundreds of thousands more learning in Asia, Africa, Europe, and Latin America.

Ladies and Gentlemen

  I'm only going to talk to you just for a minute or so this evening because I have some -- some very sad news for all of you -- Could you lower those signs please? -- I have some very sad news for all of you and I think sad news for all of our fellow citizens and people who love peace all over the world; and that is that Martin Luther King was shot and was killed tonight in Memphis Tennessee.

  Martin Luther King dedicated his life to love and to justice between fellow human beings. He died in the cause of that effort. In this difficult day in this difficult time for the United States it's perhaps well to ask what kind of a nation we are and what direction we want to move in. For those of you who are black -- considering the evidence evidently is that there were white people who were responsible -- you can be filled with bitterness and with hatred and a desire for revenge.

  We can move in that direction as a country in greater polarization -- black people amongst blacks and white amongst whites filled with hatred toward one another. Or we can make an effort as Martin Luther King did to understand and to comprehend and replace that violence that stain of bloodshed that has spread across our land with an effort to understand compassion and love.

  For those of you who are black and are tempted to fill with -- be filled with hatred and mistrust of the injustice of such an act against all white people I would only say that I can also feel in my own heart the same kind of feeling. I had a member of my family killed but he was killed by a white man.

  But we have to make an effort in the United States. We have to make an effort to understand to get beyond or go beyond these rather difficult times.

  My favorite poem my -- my favorite poet was Aeschylus. And he once wrote:

  Even in our sleep pain which cannot forget

  falls drop by drop upon the heart

  until in our own despair

  against our will comes wisdom

  through the awful grace of God.

  What we need in the United States is not division; what we need in the United States is not hatred; what we need in the United States is not violence and lawlessness but is love and wisdom and compassion toward one another and a feeling of justice toward those who still suffer within our country whether they be white or whether they be black.

  So I ask you tonight to return home to say a prayer for the family of Martin Luther King -- yeah it's true -- but more importantly to say a prayer for our own country which all of us love -- a prayer for understanding and that compassion of which I spoke.

  We can do well in this country. We will have difficult times. We've had difficult times in the past but we -- and we will have difficult times in the future. It is not the end of violence; it is not the end of lawlessness; and it's not the end of disorder.

  But the vast majority of white people and the vast majority of black people in this country want to live together want to improve the quality of our life and want justice for all human beings that abide in our land.

  And let's dedicate ourselves to what the Greeks wrote so many years ago: to tame the savageness of man and make gentle the life of this world. Let us dedicate ourselves to that and say a prayer for our country and for our people.

  My name is Jie Lidi. Today, my topic is: "Confidence". As we all know, failure is the mother of success. But What I want to say is that success is the child of confidence. Without confidence, things can become negative and uncomfortable. I remember, during an English class, I wanted to make a sentence using the word "listen". I should have said: "I listen to the Voice of America" but I was too nervous and said "I listen to the Noise of America". Everybody in the class laughed. Since then I wanted to train myself to be confident. Now, confidence makes me brave and courageous. Take this speech for example. I wanted to enter this competition, but I would feel very embarrassed if I made mistakes. Just then, I thought about my dream. My dream is to become a scientist when I grow up. If I am not confident, how can I overcome difficulties I face? If I am not confident, how can I succeed in developing myself in the future? I will do it! Today, I am making a speech in public and I feel proud and confident!

  I am sure, in the future, with confidence, I will go forward-always forward. Confidence will make my dreams come true!

  英语的口头表达能力虽然不是我们考试的必备能力,但它却是同学们将来所需要的最重要的,最实用的英语技能。一口流利的英语是每一个英语学习者所梦想达到的理想水平。重视口语能力的训练不仅对未来有重要意义,对提高同学们高中阶段的英语水平也有非常重要的意义。说英语就是运用英语。语言能力和语言知识,同许多其它能力和知识一样,只有通过运用,并且经常运用才会真正地学到手,学到家。英语是一门语言。语言是听出来的,是经过不断模仿后才能说出来的。高中生的英语口语能力要求,除了一般日常交际应答以外,还应该具备能连续表达含五个以上的句子。练就一口流畅的英语口语需要同学们抓住三个机会:一是课堂上老师为同学们提供的开口机会。二是课前演讲或者值日报告的机会。三是早读是个好机会。早读不应该总是停留在背单词、背课文这样的简单劳动中。单词不是用来背诵的。朗读单词的目的是要把单词的发音读准,并且能上口,读起来不勉强,不绕口。课文也不是用来背诵的。熟读课文是为了加深理解,巩固词汇知识和语法知识。既然口语能力那么重要,同学们不妨把背诵或者复述课文当成是口语表达或者演讲的准备呢?换句话说,把课文材料准备得再熟悉不过以后,来一次演讲展示,那且不美哉!真正的高英语水平绝不是看书看出来的,也不是做习题能做出来的,更不是听老师讲课能听出来的。早读期间通过不断模仿,放声吼叫,反复实践,你一定能快速提高自己的口语表达能力。

  英语短文阅读的重要性不仅表现在高中英语考试中它的份量最大,而且还表现在英语短文是英语词汇知识和语法知识的载体方面。词汇量的扩大、词汇知识的丰富和句子表达的多样性光靠死记硬背是无法也不可能实现的。扩大词汇量、丰富自己的词汇知识和地道完美的表达自己只有依靠优良的阅读习惯。教材课文是精读材料,需要同学们读熟读透,直至能开口娓娓道来为止。课外阅读又叫泛读。高中英语新课标教材对高中前八个模块的学习有一个要求:课外阅读要完成30万单词的阅读量。也就是说:同学们需要每天有500到700个单词量的阅读。课外阅读也是运用语言的一种必不可少的形式。课外阅读不能停留在完成几道阅读理解试题或者完形填空试题。关键在尽量弄懂文章中的每一句话含义、长难句的结构。留意你还不很熟悉的词汇、词汇知识和语法知识。还要去认真体会不同的英语句子在表达上的精确性。千万不要在一些你还不认识的,拼写怪诞,发音困难的生僻词汇上浪费时间和精力。

  阅读能力,除词汇量大小以外,还包含阅读速度、长难句理解、和把握主题大意的'能力。要会快速阅读,同学们必须学会一些阅读的技能:如:skimming(跳读)、scanning(扫读)和digesting(研读)。Skimming和scanning就是根据阅读任务在文中查找相关信息。Digesting主要是用来理解长难句、把握主题大意和作者意图以及猜测词义的技术。不仅要研读长难句结构,也还需要研读逻辑关系。

  流畅的短文表达能力在很大程度上依赖于你的词汇量、词汇知识和句法知识。它们的积累在于平时的听、说和读的活动。写作表达能力中,你的英语句式的结构思维能力或者英语习惯思维能力会对表达能力有重要影响。这就需要同学们平时养成一个良好习惯:那就是总是试图用英语来表达出你眼睛所看到的,耳朵能听到的,身体能感受到的和你思想能想到的。除此之外,一篇优秀的短文还少不了三个要素:即结构,内容和语言。

  一片结构完美的英文短文,尤其是说明文和议论文,往往有一个比较完优美的,诱人深入阅读的开头语。主题句是可从开头语中自然而然过度而来。你所程述的观点,一般都要用事实做论证,或者用具体方式方法来支持。巧妙的结论句往往能使文章锦上添花。

  内容需要真实,合乎情理,能让人信服。文中不要有与主题无关的内容。

  语言要尽可能是地道的,去汉语化的英语。要经常套用自己在阅读中、在课堂上学来句子结构去表达自己。要敢于尝试用比较复杂的句子结构和比较高级的词汇来使文章进一步美化。

  听所读写四大技能并不是各自孤立的,也是相互作用和相互制约的。如果平时,只注重某一项技能的学习和训练,那是不可能成为一位真正的英语强手的。

  任何一门学科都需要踏实的学习作风。外语也不例外。学外语的实主要表现在以下几个方面:

  一、落实词汇、词汇知识和特殊句式的积累。落实词汇和词汇知识并不是反复背记词汇表中的单词。落实词汇、词汇知识以及特殊句式的最好办法是先探究后运用。一个词汇在经过七到八次在不同时间和不同的语境中运用后,它就是你的了。词汇知识和特殊句式也是一样。写作是运用,造句是运用,阅读,倾听和与他人用英语交流也是运用。借助词典进行造句练习,在造句中运用新学的词汇不失为一种行之有效的简单易行的方式。

  二、落实课外阅读。每天坚持花半小时阅读一两篇短文。一要真正读懂。二要留意词汇运用。

  三、落实早自习精读。每次有硬指标,死任务。

  四、落实课内课外书面作业。简单的完成老师布置的作业量并不是落实。书面作业质的落实必须是在真正懂了、记住了的基础上又快又好的独立的、闭卷式的完成书面作业。对发现的漏洞和缺陷要采取补救措施。

  五、落实自主探究的学习能力培养。学习中缺乏自主探究,不善于利用团队合作和与老师沟通是很多高中生在学习中存在的一种普遍想象。老师不是保姆,老师不可能把英语的词汇知识和英语的四大能力烹制成一道道佳肴后,一口一口地喂进学生的口中。老师的探究代替不了学生的探究。学习能力的培养主要是探究能力的培养。学会了探究,你才会在知识的大海中畅游。学会了探究,你才会成为终身学习者。英语学科的探究应该表现在对某一特定词汇在文中、在句中的用法和含义的探究,对长难句结构和含义的探究,对相关知识关联的探究,对作者意图、主题大意的探究,当然也包含对学法的探究。要探究知识,要有工具(词典以及各种手册等)的帮助,更要有团队的合作,还要有老师的帮助。团队合作可以让你取他人之长补自己之短,还可以集思广益,产生思想火花。常与老师沟通是可以使你更容易发现前进的方向,少走弯路。

  总而言之,英语学习需要同学们从听说读写四大技能方面养成良好的学习习惯,坚持语言知识积累、精读、泛读、课内课外作业和自主探究五个方面的脚踏实地地勤奋努力,就能够比较轻松地完成高中英语的学习,为自己将来的远大理想奠定坚实的外语基础。

  dreams lost somehow in the process of growing up, and sometimes i personally find myself saying goodbye unconsciously to those distant childhood dreams.

  however, we need dreams. they nourish our spirit; they represent possibility even when we are dragged down by reality. they keep us going. most successful people are dreamers as well as ordinary people who are not afraid to think big and dare to be great. when we were little kids, we all dreamed of doing something big and splashy, something significant. now what we need to do is to maintain them, refresh them and turn them into reality. however, the toughest part is that we often have no ideas how to translate these dreams into actions. well, just start with concrete objectives and stick to it. don‘t let the nameless fear confuse the eye and confound our strong belief of future. through our talents, through our wits, through our endurance and through our creativity, we will make it.

  hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken-winged bird that cannot fly. hold fast to dreams, for when dreams go, life is a barren field frozen with snow. so my dear friends, think of your old and maybe dead dreams. whatever it is, pick it up and make it alive from today.

So every morning my first job is to choose what kind of day I am going to have. Today I can complain because it is rainy or I can be grateful that the grass is watered for free.

  Today I can feel sad because I don’t have more money or I can be glad that it will prevent me from wasting.

  Today I can feel very down because of a bad cold or I can rejoice that I am still alive.

  Today I can lament over all that my parents didn’t give me when I was growing up or I can feel grateful that they allowed me to be born.

  Today I can be disappionted for my lack of friends or I can be excited to discover new relationships.

  Today I can be exhausted because I have too much homework to do or I can feel honored because I’m getting closer to my dream in this way.

  What today will be like is just up to can get to choose what kind of day we will have! As teenagers,we stilll have much time to achieve our dreams, but the way to success is not so we choose to face it in a good mood and carry on trying,I believe we can enjoy the whole process and get to the destination of success much more easily and happily.

  In fact,everything depends on your own you choose to be happy and positive,you will enjoy your work and have a good you choose to be sad and negative,nothing good will come to you and your life will be colourless.

  The world around us is so e is no reason why we don’t enjoy ,everybody,let’s choose to be happy everyday!

When this happens, we need to learn to understand and respect the customs of another culture. Then there are certain things some people may not like.
