It was noon on Friday. Friday was wash day, Kerry’s least favorite day. Doing the wash was such a pain. He had to gather together all the dirty clothes. He had to turn the shirts and slacks inside out to save wear and tear on the outside of the shirts and slacks. He had to empty all the junk out of all the pockets of his clothes.

Then he had to find quarters for each load of wash—four for the washer and three for the dryer. It’d be so nice to have a weekly maid, like his downstairs neighbor. Kerry piled all his clothes into the laundry basket and went downstairs. He was relieved to hear silence as he approached the laundry room; no one was using the machines. He put laundry soap and quarters into the washer, and set it at Warm Temperature and Regular Wash. A few minutes later, it was full of soapy water. He stuffed in half of the dirty clothes. This was going to be a two-load day.

He placed the half-full basket on top of the churning washer. He shut the laundry room door and walked back upstairs. He set his electronic timer to 35 minutes. When the washer was done, he’d reload it and put the first load into the dryer. He sat down and opened the newspaper to the California section: "Truck Runs Over Crossing Guard," said the headline.

Ladies and gentlemen,

This is joe biden, i'm filling in for president obama, while he addresses the nato summit in wales.

When the president and i took office in january of , this nation was in the midst of the greatest economic crisis since the great depression. our economy had plummeted1 at a rate of 8% in a single quarter-part of the fastest economic decline any time in the last half century. millions of families were falling underwater on their homes and threatened with foreclosure. the iconic american automobile2 industry was under siege.

But yesterday's jobs report was another reminder3 of how far we've come. we've had 54 straight months of job creation. and that's the longest streak4 of uninterrupted job growth in the united states' history.

We've gone from losing 9 million jobs during the financial crisis to creating 10 million jobs. we've reduced the unemployment rate from 10% in october of to 6.1% today. and for the first time since the 1990s, american manufacturing is steadily5 adding jobs-over 700,000 since . and surveys of both american and foreign business leaders confirm that america once again is viewed as the best place in the world to build and invest.

  That's all good news.

Arkansas is a state that knows political skill when you see it. a fellow in saline county was asked by his son why he liked governor clinton so much. he said, son, he'll look you in the eye, he'll shake your hand, he'll hold your baby, he'll pat your dog -- all at the same time.

In the early 1990s, the american people saw a young, well-spoken, relatively unknown governor rise to national prominence. yet for decades here in arkansas, the signs of destiny were clear. when young william entered a new school in the 4th grade, a classmate recalls, "he didn't mean to, but he just took the place over." when governor clinton declared his candidacy for president in this city, his close friends were not surprised in the least. they'd always known that bill clinton's moment in history would come.

Over the years, bill clinton showed himself to be much more than a good politician. his home state elected him governor in the 1970s, the 1980s, and the 1990s, because he was an innovator, a serious student of policy, and a man of great compassion. in the white house, the whole nation witnessed his brilliance and mastery of detail, his persuasive power, and his persistence. the president is not the kind to give up a fight. his staffers were known to say, "if clinton were the titanic, the iceberg would sink."

Thank you, mr. chairman.

Mr. chairman, i join my colleague mr. rangel in thanking you for giving the junior members of this committee the glorious opportunity of sharing the pain of this inquiry. mr. chairman, you are a strong man, and it has not been easy but we have tried as best we can to give you as much assistance as possible.

Earlier today, we heard the beginning of the preamble to the constitution of the united states: "we, the people." it's a very eloquent beginning. but when that document was completed on the seventeenth of september in 1787, i was not included in that "we, the people." i felt somehow for many years that george washington and alexander hamilton just left me out by mistake. but through the process of amendment, interpretation, and court decision, i have finally been included in "we, the people."

Today i am an inquisitor. an hyperbole would not be fictional and would not overstate the solemnness that i feel right now. my faith in the constitution is whole; it is complete; it is total. and I am not going to sit here and be an idle spectator to the diminution, the subversion, the destruction, of the constitution.

"Who can so properly be the inquisitors for the nation as the representatives of the nation themselves?" "the subjects of its jurisdiction are those offenses which proceed from the misconduct of public men." and that's what we're talking about. in other words, [the jurisdiction comes] from the abuse or violation of some public trust.

It is wrong, i suggest, it is a misreading of the constitution for any member here to assert that for a member to vote for an article of impeachment means that that member must be convinced that the president should be removed from office. the constitution doesn't say that. the powers relating to impeachment are an essential check in the hands of the body of the legislature against and upon the encroachments of the executive. the division between the two branches of the legislature, the house and the senate, assigning to the one the right to accuse and to the other the right to judge, the framers of this constitution were very astute. they did not make the accusers and the judgers -- and the judges the same person.

We know the nature of impeachment. we've been talking about it awhile now. it is chiefly designed for the president and his high ministers to somehow be called into account. it is designed to "bridle" the executive if he engages in excesses. "it is designed as a method of national inquest into the conduct of public men." the framers confided in the congress the power if need be, to remove the president in order to strike a delicate balance between a president swollen with power and grown tyrannical, and preservation of the independence of the executive.

The nature of impeachment: a narrowly channeled exception to the separation-of-powers maxim. the federal convention of 1787 said that. it limited impeachment to high crimes and misdemeanors and discounted and opposed the term "maladministration." "it is to be used only for great misdemeanors," so it was said in the north carolina ratification convention. and in the virginia ratification convention: "we do not trust our liberty to a particular branch. we need one branch to check the other."

"No one need be afraid" -- the north carolina ratification convention -- "no one need be afraid that officers who commit oppression will pass with immunity." "prosecutions of impeachments will seldom fail to agitate the passions of the whole community," said hamilton in the federalist papers, number 65. "we divide into parties more or less friendly or inimical to the accused." i do not mean political parties in that sense.

During his presidency, bill clinton seized important opportunities on issues from welfare to free trade. he was a tireless champion of peace in the middle east. he used american power in the balkans to confront aggression and halt ethnic cleansing. and in all his actions and decisions, the american people sensed a deep empathy for the poor and the powerless. shortly before leaving office, president clinton said, "christ admonished us that our lives will be judged by how we do unto the least of our neighbors." throughout his career, bill clinton has done his best to live up to that standard. and americans respect him for it. at every stage of his remarkable life, president clinton has made and kept countless friends, who share in the joy of this day. and three people in particular have the largest part in this remarkable story. one day more than 30 years ago, inside the yale law library, a fellow student walked over to bill clinton and said, "if you're going to keep staring at me, and i'm going to keep staring back, we ought to at least know each other's name. mine's hillary rodham. what is yours?"that was a good day for both of them, and the beginning of a partnership unique in american history. so today, we honor the former first lady of arkansas, the former first lady of america, the united states senator from new york, senator hillary rodham clinton.

Perhaps the clintons' greatest achievement is their daughter, who moved into the white house as a young girl, and left as an accomplished young lady. it's not easy to be a teenager in the white house, but it's a lot easier when you have a loving mother and a loving father that chelsea clinton had.

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen,

Today i'm very happy to be here to share with you some of my thoughts onthe topic of globalization. and first of all, i would like to mention an eventin our recent history.

Thirty years ago, american president richard nixon made an epoch-makingvisit to china, a country still isolated at that time. premier zhou enlai saidto him, "your handshake came over the vastest ocean in the world - twenty-fiveyears of no communication." ever since then, china and america have exchangedmany handshakes of various kinds. the fundamental implication of this example isthat the need and desire to communicate across differences in culture andideology is not only felt by the two countries but by many other nations aswell.

As we can see today, environmentalists from different countries are makingjoint efforts to address the issue of global warming, economists are seekingsolutions to financial crises that rage in a particular region but nonethelesscripple the world's economy, and diplomats and politicians are getting togetherto discuss the issue of combating terrorism. peace and prosperity has become acommon goal that we are striving for all over the world. underlying this mightytrend of globalization is the echo of e. m. forster's words, "only connect!"

With the it revolution taking place, traditional boundaries of humansociety fall away. our culture, politics, society and commerce are being sloshedinto a large melting pot of humanity. in this interlinked world, there are nooutsiders, for a disturbance in one place is likely to impact other parts of theglobe. we have begun to realize that a world divided cannot endure.

China is now actively integrating into the world. our recent entry to thewto is a good example. for decades, we have taken pride in being self-reliant,but now we realize the importance of participating in and contributing to abroader economic order. from the precarious role in the world arena to ourpresent wto membership, we have come a long way.

But what does the way ahead look like? in some parts of the world peopleare demonstrating against globalization. are they justified then, in criticizingthe globalizing world? instead of narrowing the gap between the rich and thepoor, they say, globalization enables developed nations to swallow thedeveloping nations' wealth in debts and interest. globalization, they argue, should be about an earnest interest in every other nation's economic health.

We are reminded by karl marx that capital goes beyond national borders andeludes control from any other entity. this has become a reality. multinationalcorporations are seeking the lowest cost, the largest market, and the mostfavorable policy. they are often powerful lobbyists in governmentdecision-making, ruthless expansionists in the global market place and adevastating presence to local businesses.

For china, still more challenges exist. how are we going to ensure a smoothtransition from the planned economy to a market-based one? how to construct alegal system that is sound enough and broad enough to respond to the needs of adynamic society? how to maintain our cultural identity in an increasinglyhomogeneous world? and how to define greatness in our rise as a peace-lovingnation? globalization entails questions that concern us all.

Like many young people my age in china, i want to see my country getprosperous and enjoying respect in the international community. but it seems tome that mere patriotism is not just enough. it is vitally important that weyoung people do more serious thinking and broaden our mind to bigger issues.and, there might never be easy answers to those issues such as globalization, but to take them on and give them honest thinking is the first step to beprepared for both opportunities and challenges coming our way. and this is alsoone of the thoughts that came to me while preparing this speech. thank you.

When you are in the warm wind stroke, flowers, green hills and water, fertile land, white spring scenery, will enjoy them; When you face as goldsilver, fruits of the autumn season, will be pleased. Have you ever wondered, that is full of spring scenery is after cold after the baptism of ying, theautumn scenery is accepted after the heat melting crystallization. Thoughtful, actually our life as well. Don't go through a ideal and struggle of the freezingcold, which can get covered in tears?

Ideal. Is the first level, just like big tree, but it is only a singleseed. The luster of the life ideal is needed to modify, it gave the life themost bright light. With it, we will insist on our own way more walk more far, ideal is very big, can be a lifetime of ideal, a phase of the ideal, the idealof the year. Ideal is very small, but even an hour a day a month for one minutethe ideal can ignite your heart the most beautiful spark, a way to wash away thevast dust, all the way forward. How flowers in full bloom in spring and summerof how stars twinkling silver, the road of life, how to set sail, drew a pieceof poetry to the blue sky? I think the answer is simple - that is to make theheart that can grow into a tree of the "seed" takes root germination.

Struggle, is the second level. The tree again big, also need to processit's growth. Youth itself, is a bright and dazzling word, are in such a splendidtime of our next. Young heart unavoidable also look forward to a lot, yes, whodoes not desire to be your own, bring the boat of life navigation into anothersports? From the devotion to study of literacy of students sent resolutely to bein a hurry an office worker, we crossed the adult line, the most magnificentchapter in life has quietly started from here. Preoccupied with wings to fly outof the parents' care, fight your own highest heaven nine days, after all, myyouth, want to by our own! And just as loudly shout exports, desperate fromgreenhouse, facing the immensity of heaven and earth, if we lost, whether Ishould calm down: my youth, how can I make decision? In life, everyone will meetthe unpleasant things, suffer setbacks, misunderstood, criticism, and so on.There was a feeling, no doubt, is a formidable obstacle. But this is the bitterand the sweet in growth, the tree's growth needs sunshine with nutrients. Ifnecessary please generosity will be your confidence and courage. Remember:though the flowers in the greenhouse, long yan, but inside but always within itthat gives a person the fragrance.

Events such as song, in the journey of life, despite the rocky, have pity, but not lose the beauty of youth. Believe in yourself, there is always hope, letus remember that sentence: missed the sun, I don't cry, otherwise, I will missthe moon and the stars. So, let's come on!

Ladies and gentleman,good evening!

It's my great honor to present this speech today.my name is peace and i am from class 1 of teaching chinese as a foreign language. my topic today is "living at present is my top concern".

We've often heard the famous words;“yesterday is history, tomorrow is mistery, but today is a gift, that's why it's called 'present' ”.indeed, rich or poor, every one is endowed with this most precious gift .Only by treasuring it and living to our fullest potential in the present, can we project our way forward to a bright and rewarding future.

Living at present requires a positive attitude to confront life;it's having the wisdom to spend our life’s resources engaging in the most productive affairs; it's directing our time and energy towards the most efficient way to achieve a promising future! by living at present, we'll have more time and energy to focus on our goals and make a diffference to whatever our current task may be. furthermore, it's learning from the past instead of unnecessarily carrying heavy burdens from yesterday, and planing our future to wisely prepare for it instead of being impatient or restless . if we drawn, or let ourselves be overcome by yesterday's memories or strong feelings , how can we be observant enough to focus on things going on around us? if we are into dreaming or unnecessary concern for tomorrow, how can we prepare well for the exciting upcoming future?

That is why living at present is my top concern.

Living at present demands the courage to throw away useless encumbrances of the past , to accept what is unchangeable, to change what is chnageable, and to learn from the past which should be a lesson. ,instead of an obstacle.

Living at present also requires the wisdom to concentrate on the present ,preparing for the future and courageously displaying the patience to wait for tomorrow.

Over a long period of time, taking care of my little brother and making money at university push me too hard ,and i was so exhausted and anxious that i couldn't even sleep though my sleeping time is extremely limited.eventually, i came to realize that i must lay off the mental burdens like worries from the past and concerns for the future and live at present. I need just to realise that i am on my way to my destination. Because i now know, that my top concern is "living at present "!

Good evening, ladies and gentlemen!

Etiquette is not only the person, the embodiment of education is also a manifestation of personal morality and social morality. Is the face of the city, is the country face.

Therefore, learning etiquette not only in strong personal qualities, outside the plastic units better able to lubricate and improve interpersonal relationships.

Has a history of 5,000 years of civilization as the "ceremonies", stressing civilization, with rituals, but also promote the national culture, an important way to demonstrate national spirit.

We are in society, identity, role is constantly changing. We hate others this moment, the next moment people often become the object of hate. These are none other than "informal," the act of.

When we, as tourists often, always in accordance with their own interest, spitting, spit chewing gum, trampled grass, scrawl graffiti on the cultural relics; when we are the people of the time, it is spitting the phenomenon of hate to write graffiti.

When we get along with classmates when the students always complain about the "informality", whether at work or life to speak through things; and our management are often too lazy to "section."

When we take the bus, always able to grab a seat for the complacent, pushed, stepped on, when people say I'm sorry from the disdain; when we were pushed or stepped on, when they do not always say sorry if the brooding and even punches thrown; the time when we are old, standing threw the car, always eager to own some people to not stand for a seat.

With the social development and progress, people's spiritual needs levels and increasing the value of self-awareness, we want to understand more, be respected. There is no doubt that the current situation, the ritual is not individual industries, individual community's needs, but all the people needed.

Train to run fast, depends on the locomotive. At home, if parents can take the lead; in schools, if teachers can take the lead; in the unit, if leaders can take the lead; in the window unit, window staff if we can take the lead ... ... by extension, to all of China to promote , universal civilization, etiquette, if the capital more than 10 million people to take the lead in this head; if everyone starts from me and from now on ... ...

No doubt, our civility to popularize the work will be easier. Then our spiritual civilization and material civilization would be like to achieve rapid development. We are 1.3 billion people, mental outlook, certainly a new look, people are living in a friendly, tolerant, caring, warm community atmosphere!

  Etiquette, stressing that the "respect-based."

Want others to respect you, first of all have to respect people.

Those bad habits, map the moment fast, lost to one's personality and dignity. Do not respect even their own people, other people will respect you?

My speech is over, thank you!

My hometown is very beautiful, there are many beautiful places, but my favorite is the banyan tree.

Yes, English is an international language, in communication when communicating with foreigners, English is a must, but in our China, you must speak good Chinese. Some people half in and half the yankees, with a few words in Chinese, foreign language; Some people speak word order confusion, the fine Chinese words not nor; Some life in China, long in China, but he said the bad Chinese at the same time, in a foreign language is heavy, also said what to adapt to the trend; Boys and girls, let's learn Chinese well, speaking mandarin

Damage state language problems have emerged, as middle school students, we must not stand idly by, "write standard words, speak mandarin" in school, in social life, learn to use language to describe our whole world.

"With language, create beautiful motherland tomorrow".

We set no bounds to our inclinations. nor to the unrestricted opportunities of gratifying them. we have as yet found no obstacle, no disposition to flag; and it seems that we can go on so forever. we look round in a new world, full of life, and motion, and ceaseleprogress; and feel in ourselves all the vigor and spirit to keep pace with it, and do not foresee from any present symptoms how we shall be left behind in the natural course of things, decline into old age, and drop into the grave. it is the simplicity, and as it were abstractedneof our feelings in youth, that (so to speak) identifies us with nature, and (our experience being slight and our passions strong) deludes us into a belief of being immortal like it. our short-lives connection with existence we fondly flatter ourselves, is an indissoluble and lasting union-a honeymoon that knows neither coldness, jar, nor separation. as infants smile and sleep, we are rocked in the cradle of our wayward fancies, and lulled into security by the roar of the universe around us0we quaff the cup of life with eager haste without draining it, instead of which it only overflows the more-objects prearound us, filling the mind with their magnitude and with the strong of desires that wait upon them, so that we have no room for the thoughts of death.
